The oxygen analyzers that every UOP CCR Platforming unit has on the regen tower stack
When you license a UOP CCR Platforming process, the P&ID already shows an Ametek WDG analyzer on the regenerator flue gas. That’s it – no alternatives. The reason is simple: the sensor sits directly in 650–720 °C flue gas full of chlorine, catalyst dust and water. Normal “cold-wall" analyzers die in weeks. The WDG-V UOP (newer) and WDG-IV UOP (old workhorse) are built different – the zirconia cell is close-coupled, the whole probe is heated to 300 °C, and the blowback actually works. Most units get a cell change every 4–6 years and keep running.
| Measurement | 0–1% / 0–10% O₂ (field selectable) |
| Process temperature | up to 900 °C (normal 650–720 °C) |
| Response time | T90 less than 10 seconds |
| Output | 4–20 mA isolated, Modbus RTU, HART on WDG-V |
| Power | 115/230 VAC, about 500 W with heater |
| Probe length | 0.5 m – 3 m (most plants use 1.5 m) |
| Approvals | Class I Div 2, ATEX Zone 2 standard |
Q: How often do I change the zirconia cell?
A: Usually 4–6 years, some plants hit 8 years.
Q: Can I just buy any zirconia analyzer?
A: No – UOP will reject it during HAZOP if it’s not WDG-IV/V UOP.
Q: Spare parts for the old WDG-IV?
A: Still made in USA, next-day ship from stock.
